What tools are used in shamanism?

27 June 2023 by Embracing Shamanism

Shamanic practitioners may use a variety of tools to aid in their practice. Here are some common tools used in shamanism:

Drum: The drum is often used in shamanic journeying to help alter the practitioner’s consciousness and enter a trance state. The rhythmic beat of the drum is believed to help connect the practitioner with the spiritual realm.

Rattle: Similar to the drum, the rattle can be used to help alter consciousness and aid in shamanic journeying. It is also used to clear negative energies and create a sacred space.

Sage, palo santo, or other herbs: These herbs are commonly used in smudging ceremonies to clear negative energy and create a sacred space.

Stones and crystals: Stones and crystals are often used in shamanic healing, either by placing them on the body or using them to create a grid or layout.

Feathers: Feathers are often used in shamanic practices as a symbol of flight and communication with the spirit realm. They may also be used to clear energy or as a tool for healing.

Incense: Incense can be used to create a sacred atmosphere and help to focus the mind during meditation or other shamanic practices.

These are just a few examples of the tools that may be used in shamanic practice. However, it’s important to note that the most important tool a shamanic practitioner has is their own connection to the spirit realm and their own intuition.
