Animal Allies

11 April 2025 by Embracing Shamanism

Have you ever felt a deep connection to a particular animal? Perhaps a fox always seems to cross your path, or an owl’s call stirs something ancient within you. In shamanic traditions, these encounters are more than just coincidence they may be messages from your spirit animal, guiding you toward deeper self-awareness and wisdom.

At our Introduction to Shamanism Training Weekend, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the ancient practice of working with animal allies a key element of shamanic wisdom. Through guided journeying, storytelling, and experiential practices, you’ll learn how to connect with these sacred guides and uncover the insight they have to offer.

What Are Spirit Animals?

In shamanic traditions across the world, animals are seen as wise teachers and protectors that offer guidance in times of uncertainty. They appear in dreams, meditations, or real-life encounters, bringing messages tailored to your personal journey. These allies reflect your strengths, challenges, and untapped potential.

Unlike pop-culture ideas of “totem animals” or zodiac-based spirit animals, shamanic animal allies are unique to you and can change over time. Some may walk with you for a lifetime, while others appear during specific phases of growth and transformation.

How to Discover Your Spirit Animal

During our Introduction to Shamanism Training Weekend, you’ll be guided through a shamanic journey a practice that allows you to enter a meditative state and connect with your inner world. This is one of the most powerful ways to meet your spirit animal, as it creates space for direct, personal experience.

Here are some ways to start tuning into your animal allies before the training:

🔹 Pay Attention to Recurring Animal Encounters – Are you repeatedly seeing a particular animal in dreams, on walks, or in unexpected places? This could be a sign.

🔹 Observe the Qualities You’re Drawn To – If you’ve always felt a connection to wolves, owls, or horses, their traits might reflect something in you.

🔹 Ask for a Sign – Set an intention before sleep or meditation: “I invite my animal ally to reveal itself.” Then, notice what comes through in your dreams, intuition, or daily life.

🔹 Explore Shamanic Journeying – At our training, you’ll learn how to enter a trance state through drumming, allowing you to meet and communicate with your spirit animal directly.

Bringing Your Animal Ally into Daily Life

Once you’ve connected with your spirit animal, you can cultivate the relationship through:

🔹 Meditation & Journeying – Regularly entering a relaxed state to communicate with your ally.
🔹 Symbolism & Art – Keeping an image or small carving of your animal as a reminder of its presence.
🔹 Embodying Its Qualities – If your animal is a hawk, practice seeing situations from a broader perspective. If it’s a deer, cultivate gentleness and awareness.
